Health Reform Law Adds Calories
While legislators continue to fight the health reform law, restaurant chains are also feeling the bite. Restaurants?
Yes, section 4205 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (”Affordable Care Act”) set standards for nutritional labeling at chain restaurants and food sold from vending machines. Continue Reading »
Can Boomers Wait for 2014 Health Care Reform?
Boomers to Benefit From Health Care Reform
In last week’s news, variations on that theme splashed across several headlines.
A recently released report from the Commonwealth Fund spawned the predictive headlines.
As a card-carrying baby boomer (people born between 1946 and 1964) who has a specialty in health care, the headlines caught my interest. After scanning the articles and the report, here’s my question —
Can Boomers wait for 2014 health care reform? Continue Reading »
Judge Says At a Minimum Health Care Reform Is Unconstitutional
The Minimum Essential Coverage provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is unconstitutional.
That was the December 13, 2010 ruling of Judge Henry Hudson of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Continue Reading »
Amendment Makes Grandfathered Plans Less Crotchety
It was supposed to allow Americans to keep health plans they loved. For some, the “grandfathered” status of the Health Care Reform Law created more questions than answers.
The “grandfathered” status exempts existing health plans from certain provisions of the law. However, there appeared to be more ways to lose that status than there were pages in the law itself. Employers that sponsor health plans can now remove one way of losing grandfathered status from the list. Continue Reading »

Health Care Reform – Again
What may be another form of March Madness, the House of Representatives passed the Senate health care reform bill and the Reconciliation bill. As is often the way with politics, there were plenty of white-out changes thrown in at the end. Legal counsel for employers and other organizations undoubtedly have job security for the foreseeable future, as they try to answer the question, “What does this mean?” Continue Reading »
Has Health Care Reform Shoe Dropped
My earlier, very small, unscientific poll on health care reform asked: If you had the power to make it happen, would you want health care reform finalized today – no matter what the outcome? Continue Reading »
Stalled Health Care Needs Jump Start
Too Tiny to Count?
My very small, very unscientific poll asked if you could have health care reform today – no matter the outcome – would you want it? The idea was at least we would know what we were dealing with. Not surprisingly, the majority said, “No, it’s too important to rush.” Continue Reading »
Waiting for Health Care Reform Shoe to Drop

Are you like me and wishing that the whole health care reform thing was over? No matter what the outcome, at least we could move on. We would finally KNOW what we were facing. Well…maybe not, but hopefully we would know more than we do now.
With closed-door discussions, ongoing negotiations and reversals of “sure things,” there has been endless speculation. I am the kind of person that would rather know the bad news sooner than later. I hate the “not knowing.” So, I decided to run a very unscientific poll. Cast your vote and let me know your opinion. Continue Reading »
