Healthfinder.gov hopes you like them – you really, really like them.

The U.S. government website for information and tools for staying healthy has joined the 800+ million users of Facebook in search of a community.

The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) launched its own Facebook page – Be Healthy Your Way.

The 2012 challenge started January 3rd with a goal of helping Americans create and keep healthy resolutions for the coming year.

Like What You See?

So what will you get if you Like this page?

  • A dash of interactive information about preventive health services
  • A pinch about the preventive services now covered under healthcare reform
  • Weekly servings of challenges that encourage healthy behaviors

ODPHP promises tools and resources to help you make healthy decisions, including the following.

  • The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
  • The 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines
  • The recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Task Force

The Ultimate Sacrifice

Those who know me, know I am not a huge Facebook fan.

In the interest of keeping my readers iinformed, I made the ultimate sacrifice and hit the Like button. I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere, but for now, I’ll leave it alone.

The page asks for three things after you Like it.

  1. Post what being healthy means to you
  2. Make a healthy resolution and share it on the wall
  3. Invite family and friends to join

It offers several health topics under Healthy Living, A Friend Activity category and the ol’ Info and Policies categories, along with Photos and the Wall – standard Facebook fare.

At this point, there are 858 Likes and 623 talking about this. Hm, and I thought I was an original.

I’ll update you from time to time on what’s happening at the healthfinder.gov page.

Have you checked it out?

If so, what’s your take?
