Health Reform Resources for the Ultimate Blog Challenge
As posted on my business writing blog, Simply stated business.
My Health Care Roots Are Showing
For those of you who don’t know me, I spent 30+ years in the health care industry. I worked for insurance companies, employee benefit brokers and consulting firms, and in a past life was a dental hygienist – yes, cleaning teeth.
I am a middle child of seven and was the first born under my Dad’s insurance. I like to say I was doomed from the womb to be in insurance.
When I decided to take my 30+ years of professional writing experience and go solo, I never completely walked away from my health care roots. In fact, much of my business writing is ghostwriting insurance industry articles, creating white papers and case studies for health care organizations and employee benefits brokerage firms.
Health Reform – Simple?
For my 3rd post in the 30-day Ultimate Blog Challenge, I thought I would try to help you with health reform. How’s that for a challenge?
I decided to post this both here and at my business writing blog.
The best place to start for something as complex as health reform is finding helpful resources. Here are a few suggestions.
Health Reform Resources
Kaiser Family Foundation – This nonprofit organization has been one of my favorite resources. It offered comparative analysis of all those 2,000+ pages of the health reform bills and has a whole site devoted to health reform at healthreform.kff.org.
It’s a great resource for writers, journalists and employers that sponsor health care benefits for summaries of provisions.
HealthReform.gov – This is only an archive site now. The government replaced it with Healthcare.gov, a consumer site for information.
HealthReform.gov had some good Fact Sheets, like one on “grandfathered plans” that was helpful to employers.
I reviewed Healthcare.gov. My take is it still needs work. It has high-level general information, but lacks substance when it comes to selecting a plan. It may improve as they flesh out the mass that is the health reform law.
Familiesusa.org – This site was created by a nonprofit, advocacy group. It offers comprehensive summaries. Try its Health Reform Central for just about everything you ever wanted to know (or didn’t want to know) about health reform. They also offer state-specific information, primarily links to other sites.
There are many more, technical resources. If you have a specific need, let me know in comments and I’ll provide you with some suggestions.
I am not an attorney or tax consultant, so I cannot offer you legal or tax advice, but will try to help steer you in the right direction. Do you have other resources you found helpful?
